"A.F. Vandevorst installation for Arnhem Mode Bienalle 2011
A girl sleeping in a hospital bed in her A.F. Vandevorst dress. But here the girl as well as the mattress and pillow made out of candle wax. Once lit, what starts as a perfect image will slowly melt and perish during the bienalle.”
Martina and I have been invited to an event that took place in my town Rimini, Italy at the beginning of July. The two curators transformed Villa Manzi, a dismissed hotel in front of the beach, in a 3-stories container of art, photography and music.
We took over a room and filled it with a blend of our (so) different styles, turning an old and modest space with a view on the seaside to -let’s call it- a mess in three dimensions to surround the viewer.
It’s been super fun and challenging to work with Martina, especially trying to achieve a consistent harmony between her informal work and my figurative pieces.
